Why our fund matters

This site has been established to promote the Ida Ballard Simon Memorial Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors that attended Memphis – Shelby County Schools (SCS).

Siblings and Friends of Ida Ballard Simon request your support with our mission to maintain Ida’s love for and influence in academia and her love to reach students needing scholarships and financial assistance to attend college. With your support, our collaborative efforts will continue to assist graduating senior(s) from Memphis – Shelby County Schools (SCS) public high schools to Ida’s under-graduate college alma mater –Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Over the past 15 years, with your help, the Ida Ballard Simon Scholarship Fund has offered 28 scholarships and Sponsorship Awards:

25 Scholarship Awards to assist graduating high school students meet their initial educational / career goals:

  • 3 Full Ride Scholarships
  • 1 Palladium Scholarship
  • 6 Platinum Scholarships
  • 1 Matching Scholarship, and
  • 14 Book / Travel Scholarships, and

3 Sponsorship Awards to assist / encourage college graduates to pursue career plans:

  • 2 Platinum Perseverance Awards
  • 1 Perseverance Award

About the Fund

How your support helps

With your support, funds raised by the IBS Scholarship Fund will be used to assist eligible graduating seniors of Memphis Shelby County Schools (MSCS) to pursue higher education and career goals by:

1 Awarding Ida Ballard Simon Memorial Scholarships to Memphis Shelby County Schools (MSCS) graduating seniors interested in attending Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO (Ida’s Undergraduate Alma Mater)
2 Awarding multiple 1st year Book / Travel and Platinum Scholarships to students who are enrolled or accepted into planned career programs – e.g., other Historical Black College or University (HBCU), any junior college or trade school
3 Awarding Perseverance Scholarships to students currently enrolled into planned career programs
4 Awarding Sponsorships to initiate / encourage career goals.

Apply for the 2024 Scholarships

Two to six book scholarships will be awarded to eligible Class of 2024 Graduates from Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee Public High Schools.

Completed scholarship applications must be received by Friday - April 15, 2024. Interviews will be held April 18th – 24th, 2024.
